Your words. Clear commitments.
The details,
in plain language.
What you can expect from DefinedBy, what you stay in control of, and what we ask of each other.
Written for the intended service and ready for review. They are not yet effective terms or a live-service privacy notice. This development preview creates no accounts and takes no payments. How the preview works.
01 / Privacy
Your context,
in your care.
This draft explains how DefinedBy would handle information about account holders, people they save and visitors to public introductions. The intended business model is supported by subscriptions, without ads or selling personal data. Subscriptions are not on sale yet.
Who is responsible
AuthenticIQ LLC operates DefinedBy and is responsible for the personal information used to run the service.
Before publication: confirm the business location and working privacy/support contact. These details are not yet set in this draft.
What we use, and why
- Account and security information
- Account contact details, authentication identifiers, authorised connections and security events help us sign you in, protect your account and investigate misuse.
- Your content and choices
- Drafts, pieces, selected sources, uploaded images and publication choices let us save your work and deliver the introduction you approve. Private source material does not become public simply because it helped you write.
- People and private notes
- Saved introduction references, notes and group membership let you remember people. These are private account records. Saving someone does not notify them or create a public relationship.
- Support and billing
- Messages you send for help let us respond. If you subscribe, transaction references and subscription status let us administer paid access. Hosted checkout would collect payment details; the provider and information returned to DefinedBy must be confirmed before sales begin.
- Visitor and operational data
- Hosting and security systems may process an IP address, requested page, browser information and request time to deliver pages, diagnose problems and prevent abuse. The final provider inventory and log retention must match the deployed service.
What becomes public
You choose the content and visibility of a publication and approve the version to share. The public page and structured representation use that approved selection. Private drafts, source notes, People notes and group membership are excluded.
A direct link can still be forwarded, copied or read by automated tools. Asking search engines not to index a page is not access control. Public contact details and downloaded files may be kept by other people. Withdrawing an introduction stops DefinedBy’s public delivery; it cannot recall copies or guarantee removal from third-party caches.
Service providers and your assistant
Providers that supply hosting, account infrastructure, security and support process the information necessary for those functions. We may also disclose information when legally required, or where reasonably necessary to protect people and the service. The final notice must identify the providers, their processing locations and any applicable international-transfer safeguards.
An assistant connection is your choice. Authorising it can give that provider access to private drafting context within the connection’s permissions. Its own privacy terms and retention practices apply to information it receives. Disconnecting stops future authorised access through that connection; it does not erase a draft saved here or information already held by the assistant provider.
Cookies and measurement
Account features need authentication and security state. We do not use advertising cookies or sell personal data. Any additional measurement or optional browser storage needs to be disclosed according to the actual service and applicable consent requirements. This draft does not promise that hosting requests leave no logs.
Keeping, correcting and removing information
We keep information for the purpose it was collected: maintaining your account and saved work, protecting the service, resolving support issues and meeting legal recordkeeping duties. Removing public content, ending a subscription, disconnecting an assistant and deleting an account have different effects.
Before publication: set and test the retention schedule for active records, deleted accounts, backups, security logs and billing records. Confirm the export/recovery window and how restored backups preserve withdrawals and deletions. No fixed deletion deadline is promised here.
You can request access, correction or deletion of your personal information. Depending on where you live and the processing involved, you may also have rights to portability, restriction, objection, consent withdrawal, appeal or a complaint to a regulator. We may need to verify your identity and may retain records that the law requires. The published notice must give a working request route.
Location, eligibility and changes
The launch markets, account age requirement and any local privacy supplements must be settled before registration opens. Where a legal basis must be stated, the final notice will map it to each processing purpose; a general agreement to terms is not a substitute for consent where consent is required.
We will date policy updates and explain material changes through an appropriate service notice. A new use of existing information will need its own assessment and any required notice or permission.
02 / Terms of service
A place for your words.
A few shared rules.
These proposed terms cover DefinedBy’s account tools, public introductions and related sharing features. “You” means the person using them; “we” means AuthenticIQ LLC. A final version and effective date will be presented before signup or purchase.
Your account
Keep your account contact information accurate and protect your credentials. Use an account only for yourself or with proper authority to act for its owner. Tell us if you suspect unauthorised access. We may restrict access while investigating a credible security threat.
Before registration: confirm account eligibility, minimum age and supported countries.
Your work remains yours
You retain ownership of the content you provide. You give DefinedBy the limited permission needed to store, format, reproduce and deliver it to operate the features you choose. For public delivery, that permission applies to the publication you approve; private material is used to provide your private account features. This permission does not transfer ownership or authorise us to sell your content.
Supply only material you are entitled to use. Respect other people’s privacy, copyright and contribution. A source link does not give you ownership of the linked work. Review assistant-prepared words before approving them.
Publication and public reading
A saved draft is not a publication. You approve the version and visibility to share. The readable page and machine representation must preserve that chosen meaning, including attribution and any uncertainty you supplied.
DefinedBy does not independently verify every statement or guarantee discovery, search placement, an assistant’s answer or another person’s interpretation. Paying does not buy verification or credibility. A public link is not confidential, even when it is not listed in search. Visitors remain responsible for their own use of public content and must respect applicable rights and law.
People and third-party services
People is a private way to keep references and notes. Saving someone does not oblige them to respond or connect back. Groups organise your own list; they do not grant or restrict access to a shared introduction. The person can change or withdraw the introduction you saved.
External websites, contact services, assistants and wallet providers have their own terms and availability. A link is not an endorsement. Connecting an assistant does not give it permission to publish without your supported approval, and its subscription is separate from DefinedBy.
Plans, payment and cancellation
The proposed offer is one useful Free introduction, with Paid at US$5 per month or US$60 per year. The plan and checkout must state the actual price, billing interval, applicable taxes, renewal terms and cancellation method before you agree to pay. This preview does not create a subscription.
Cancellation concerns future billing; it is separate from withdrawing a publication or deleting an account. The final terms must explain when paid access ends, what happens to features above Free limits and how to retain or export your work. A billing event must not silently publish private material.
Before charging: confirm the processor, renewal/cancellation timing, failed-payment handling, downgrade behavior and refund policy, including applicable statutory rights. No “all sales final” rule or refund window is assumed in this draft.
Use the service with care
Do not impersonate people, publish unlawful or infringing content, expose another person’s private information without a lawful basis, harass others, distribute malware, send spam or try to bypass access controls. Do not misuse the service to collect private account records or disrupt its operation.
We may remove content or restrict access to address unlawful activity, serious misuse, security risks or binding legal requirements. Where practical and lawful, we will explain the action and provide a way to ask for review. The final service needs a working abuse and copyright-reporting contact.
Leaving and service changes
You may stop using the service. Unpublishing withdraws the public introduction; deleting an account concerns the underlying account records under the privacy notice. Cancellation and assistant disconnection do neither automatically. Export and recovery access will follow the disclosed exit policy.
Features may change, and outages can happen. We will explain material changes that affect paid access and the available choices. Keep your own copies of important work. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or compatibility with every external service.
Responsibility and disputes
Nothing in these proposed terms removes consumer protections or other rights that applicable law does not allow a contract to exclude. Any limits on liability must be assessed against the actual service, operator and launch markets.
Legal review: confirm applicable law, dispute venue, enforceable liability provisions and the process for notice of changes. This draft does not impose arbitration, a class-action waiver or an invented financial liability cap.
03 / Accessibility
A usable introduction.
Reading, navigating and getting in touch should be possible with a keyboard and assistive technology, on a small screen and with reduced motion. We work on meaningful headings, text alternatives, visible focus, readable contrast and drawers that return you to where you were.
Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. It is a design and testing target, not a claim that the complete service has been independently audited or conforms today. We will publish known limitations and a working way to report barriers with the live service.
04 / This development preview
A safe place to try it.
The product examples are fictional. Private sample writing and People notes stay in page memory and reset on reload. They are not submitted to DefinedBy or included in the public sample JSON. Downloads contain the fictional public example you chose.
Contact and profile buttons in examples simulate the next action. Ordinary navigation links can open another page or external site. This preview uses no analytics or advertising scripts and no browser storage for its fictional records. Hosting and browser logging are separate from that behavior.
No live signup, subscription, wallet pass or message is created here.
For review / not part of an agreement
Make the words match
the service.
The highlighted details need operating decisions and legal review before these drafts can become effective. The next step is to confirm the operator’s location, contact route, launch markets, data inventory and retention schedule, then align the payment and exit terms with the implemented flows.
Drafting references
These are newly written DefinedBy drafts. Automattic’s open legal library, including its terms and privacy policy, informed the topic coverage; its service-specific clauses have not been copied as our operating policy. That library is available under CC BY-SA 4.0 for direct reuse and adaptation.
We also consulted the FTC’s privacy and security guidance, the ICO’s privacy-notice guidance and WCAG 2.2. These references do not establish jurisdiction, compliance or endorsement.
